Hope for patient with Alzheimer’s PDF Print E-mail

Currently professionals identify Alzheimer’s disease as a proteinopathy, caused by accumulation of abnormally folded proteins—beta-amyloid and tau proteins in brain tissue, which results in neuron degeneration.
Nevertheless, after development of regenerative medicine, based on transplantion of stem cells, a hope emerges that all patient can be cured. After carrying out of early neural stem cells transplantion on the background simultaneous internal insection of hemopoietic cells pathological process can be blocked by means of acceptance of transplanted neurons, in which fusion of amyloid-beta and tau protein is con violated. Such treatment is the most effective at the early stage of Alzheimer’s disease development.

Institute of cellular therapy in Kiev has good experience in treatment at stages of pre-dementia and early dementia. As an example we show treatment results of a patient with distinct proven diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease.
Patient G. P. R., 53 years old, came under treatment with appeal from progressive violations of working activity, manifested in pathological forgetfulness (patient could perform one and the same element of activity 4-5 times a day, forgetting each time that this work had already been done). Besides, he often instantly forgot the commission given to him, and it caused serious problems at work. Patient was apathetic, did not show any interest in the process and method of treatment. Came for treatment with personal doctor, who informed about Alzheimer’s disease diagnosis, establishing in the country of origin residence by means of positron-emission tomography. This diagnosis was proven by examination of spinal fluid at tau-protein and beta-amyloid.

In a clinic of the Institute of cellular therapy, patient had passed through a transplantation of neural stem cells and through a simultaneous transplantation of hemopoietic cells. Further the patient was in his country, following special diet (fruits, vegetables, olive oil, fish, red wine), vitamin therapy (B12, B3, C and folacin) and drug therapy (donepezil and memantine „Akatinol“).

Three months later the patient had passed through a special testing based on the complex of NINCDS-ADRDA Alzheimer’s Criteria, a neuropsychologic test MMSE and a psychological test concerning depression. The results were positive. Six months later the patient had repeatedly passed through transplantation of hemopoietic and neural stem cells. As a result of the treatment, disease progress has stopped, short-term memory has renewed, the patient is under medical observation, but he has returned to work and continues to work successfully.
